Converged Charging System - Single consolidated charging engine for full 5G

The CCS is a charging platform that provides necessary charging services required by 3GPP defined 5G Core Networks today. The charging scenarios include session or event-based charging, ranging from online, offline, or batch-based charging. The CCS generates CDR files, which may then be transferred to the network operator's Billing Domain for subscriber billing and inter-operator accounting. The CCS will be a single consolidated charging engine for all network services provided in the 5G network.

The Challenges

The customer had a legacy product that was not compatible with 5G.

The new product had to be developed from scratch and within the specified time frame.

The legacy product was not using a distributed system approach.

The customer did not have a trained team who could fully understand the existing legacy charging system and develop a new solution with similar functionalities.

The Solutions

We developed a microservices (mS)-based architecture Product in an extremely short time frame while covering all customer needs.

The design was so robust and flexible that it helped to incorporate additional features with minimal design changes.

The microservices were stateless, having a minimal impact on the loss of data in case of  service outage.

The Outcomes

The charging system platform was in the production-ready state within a short period of time.

Microservices-based architecture helped quickly find the root cause to any issue since the functionality was logically separated.

Logging and traceability of flows were excellent, capturing all necessary details for further analysis.
